Second-innings century by opening batsman Debasish Samantray helped Odisha draw their four-day Col C K Nayudu Trophy U-23 Plate Group-A match against host Chhattisgarh at BSP Cricket Stadium in Bhilai today. But Chhattisgarh gained three points by virtue of taking a first-innings lead of 167 runs, while Odisha settled with one point.
After conceding a substantial first-innings lead of 167 runs, Odisha fought back to muster a second innings score of 274 for four when the match ended in draw. Samantray hit 20 boundaries in his 353-ball knock of 122. Besided Samantray, three more Odisha players put up notable performance in this match. They were new wicket-keeper Vyankatesh Bhande, top-order batsman Devendra Kunwar and allrounder Prayas Singh.
Bhande cracked an unbeaten 56 with the help of 12 boundaries in the second innings, while Kunwar made 67 with nine fours and one six in the first essay. Prayas hit 43 in the first innings with the help of six hits to the fence and one over it.
Batting first, Odisha made a respectable total of 220. In reply, Chhattisgarh were all out for 387. Among successful Odisha bowlers, Badal Bhol, Abhijit Ghana and Shantanu Mishra picked up two wickets each. Odisha now have two points from four matches and they will play their last match against Goa on home ground from November 7 to 10.
